Build your moves on good position

We try to teach our kids that solid position is the foundation of any successful wrestling tactic or technique. With good position, wrestlers increase their probability of success and maintain the flexibility to improvise. Bad position limits their options and opens them up to counters.

The following video of Ernie Monaco talking about the strong position awareness of Russian wrestlers illustrates our point. He even shows a common position mistake many of our wrestlers struggle with – leaning forward and getting stretched out on their leg attacks. He then demonstrates the benefits of attacking while maintaining good position.
