Position battle drill

Posted on Sep 22, 2010 in Practices, Technique

I found this great video demonstrating an essential element of takedown wrestling on Flowrestling.com. Finishing/defending a leg shot is one of the most common situations in wrestling. The person that scores is almost always the one that wins the battle for position.  This drill will help both wrestlers find and maintain good position for the best scoring opportunities.

Pay special attention to his description of good position for the attacker and the way he fights back to that good position again and again. Also notice the defensive wrestler stuffing his opponent’s head and stretching him out.

We’ll use this drill a bunch in the coming season so get ready for it.
